New WEHI BioSafety review step in shipping
To strengthen compliance, WEHI has introduced an additional review step for all biological commodity shipments. Effective immediately, all shipping requests must be reviewed by WEHI BioSafety before processing.
How the BioSafety review works
- Submit a shipping request via the following link: [Submit a request]
- If your shipment contains any biological materials, it is automatically sent to WEHI BioSafety for review.
- WEHI BioSafety assesses the request to ensure correct classification and compliance:
- Imports: Verifies whether the commodity aligns with an existing WEHI import permit.
Note: If there is no existing permit for your commodity, a new permit application will be required. In some cases, the item may not be eligible for import.
-
- Exports: Ensures item descriptions are correct to be displayed on export documents, even if the recipient does not require an import permit.
- Domestic shipments (incoming & outgoing): Grants approval before dispatch.
Once approved, WEHI Shipping will proceed with your shipment, and you will receive a confirmation in the job thread.
What you need to do
- BioSafety may request additional details about your commodity for accurate classification.
- Respond promptly with clear and accurate information to prevent delays.
- If you have not received approval, follow up in the job thread or email biosafety@wehi.edu.au with your ticket number.
Providing complete and timely responses helps streamline the shipping process and avoid unnecessary delays.
