Insurance for shipping samples is generally not recommended, as proving their value to insurers can be difficult. Instead, we suggest using a ‘White Glove’ service, which offers enhanced care and reliability. However, if you are shipping high-value items with verifiable proof of purchase, insurance can be a practical option.
How to Arrange Insurance:
Unlike most couriers, only DHL offers an insurance option during the booking process, allowing you to declare the shipment’s value and select coverage. Alternatively, you can arrange insurance through a third-party freight specialist insurer.
How to select a service
- When filling out the shipping request form you will need to select ‘Commercial’ in the ‘Reason for Shipment’ dropdown.
- Proceed through the form, for each commodity a ‘Cost of Sample’ field will appear, enter the value of each sample/item you want insured throughout transit. If your item is not chemical or biological you will need to add the values in the description (detailed on the form).
- Select ‘Yes’ in the ‘Do you want insurance?’ field.
We will need the following details to be supplied in an email to us:
- Goods value – with proof of value
- Sum value – goods value + freight cost (freight cost to be supplied by WEHI Logistics)
- Donation letter – If you are gifting the item/s to an overseas party
