To decide between ‘Controlled’ and ‘Uncontrolled’ temperature options, consider the following:
Uncontrolled: This option uses a thermal container with refrigerated and frozen gel packs. It is an unvalidated choice, meaning the temperature can fluctuate during transit, which might not be suitable for temperature-sensitive items.
Controlled: This option uses a validated, passive, and reusable shipper that maintains a safe temperature for up to 5 days. While it offers more reliable temperature stability, it comes at a higher cost (approximately 20% more) due to its weight and rental fees.
If temperature consistency is crucial, go with the ‘Controlled’ option. If cost is a priority and some fluctuation is acceptable, ‘Uncontrolled’ may be sufficient.
How to select the temperature option:
- You make this selection when filling out the shipping request form.
- Proceed through the form until the ‘Temperature Requirement’ section and make your selection.
- Each commodity can have a different temperature requirement—ensure consistency if needed.
NOTE: 'Controlled' temperature shipping is only available with 'White Glove' couriers for all lanes.
