International/Dangerous Goods (DG's) Approval Process: What can I expect?
Pre-approval or an ‘okay to send’ is required for all international ‘White Glove’ and dangerous goods shipments. This ensures compliance with regulatory bodies, IATA, and WEHI logistics before the shipment is scheduled. This process involves verifying documentation, permits, and shipment details to prevent delays or issues during transit.
What happens after you submit a shipping request?
- Review & Documentation: WEHI Logistics begins the approval process by coordinating shipment details and providing the required documentation to the courier.
-
Processing Time: Approval usually takes 12–72 hours, though rare cases may take longer depending on the country and commodity.
Note: During exports, the receiver will be involved in the approval process. If they do not comply with the courier’s requests, it may cause delays in shipment’s approval. - ‘Okay to Send’ (OTS) confirmation: When this is given it means we have met the regulatory compliance of the importing and exporting country.
- Final Scheduling & Handling: After approval, the shipment is scheduled, and specialised handling—such as temperature controls and packaging—is coordinated between you, WEHI Logistics, and the courier. You will then receive confirmation of the export date (see When and how to bring your samples/materials down?).
